[Style Diva] Color of the Year 2014

Near about three weeks, before we enter 2014, and few days ago, came the much awaited announcement from Pantone- the Color of the Year 2014. Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries. The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer.

Every year, Pantone announces the Color of the year, which then becomes the sought after color in that year and most of the color trends- fashion, beauty, make up, interiors revolve around that color both in Spring and Fall.

Color of the Year 2013 was Emerald. We still have 3 weeks left in 2013, if you would like to know more about Emerald, read the posts here and here. To have a look at the previous years' Color of the Year-

Now, coming on to 2014, The color of the Year is (drum rolls) Radiant Orchid.... Expressive, exotic Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and warmth.
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

My Views on the Color of the Year 2014
An interesting and complex color, Radiant Orchid is also one of my favorites. For me this exotic color signifies luxury and confidence. It is a complex color to work around for combinations, but will be absolutely gorgeous if used well. I have always been fond of colors from this family. Apart from luxury, this for me is a color for romance, I would say matured romance, with a bit of mystery, a bit of luxury and ofcourse not too sweet like pinks and not too sexy like reds. Similar color also features in my company's Logo along with Silver Gray. I selected this combination for the luxury and elegance associated with it. You may check my website http://www.mirrorimageandstyle.com/
Looking forward to work around this color styling and make up...

[Review] Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color and NOTD

Trying out the Sally Hansen Nail colors, I tried on the Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color, which promises Xtreme Strength and Shine. I picked up Shade 485 Golden I, which I combined with Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips (204 Simply D-Vine) for the ring finger nail.

The Xtreme Wear nail colour is a thick and intense formula, which is available in lot of fun colors. The only problem while applying is that, you have to completely wipe off the extra paint from the brush as the polish from the handle tends to come down and unknowingly you may have a big blob of color on your nail and this could be really irritating and difficult to clean off if you have small nails.

Available at: Watsons, Guardian

Price: S$ 13.90-14.90

Have you tried Xtreme Wear Nail color? Which is your favorite shade?? Do leave a comment and share.

[Review] Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color

As I told in my previous post (read here) about my Nail paint haul at Sally Hansen Workshop... I could not help myself to try out their Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color. I tried to do reverse french nails... I know it was not very neat but then again, it was my first attempt at doing so on my own.

Now, to tell you about the Diamond Strength range of colors- they have real micro- diamond and platinum for extra strength. They are supposed to last for atleast 10 days without chipping and breaking. The collection has around 30 shades with nearly 15 available here in Singapore.
For the base I used #210 Brilliant Blush, which is a pretty neutral color with multicolor sheen and looks great on nails if you want healthy natural look.
For the tip I used #360 Diamonds and Rubies, which is a brilliant red and it was my first time buying red and even after buying, I could not bring myself to paint the whole nail with red, so came up with this idea of French nails.

Have you tried any variation of French Nails? Which are your favorite shades for doing french?? Do leave a comment and share.

[Event] Sally Hansen Nail Workshop

This weekend I was invited to attend the Sally Hansen Beautiful Nail Workshop. With my latest fascination with nail paints and nail art, I was very excited to be a part of this workshop.
The workshop was conducted by the nail expert Ms. Ruby Tan and it was a complete hands on experience.

With the Trainers
Each table was set up for 8 people and had a range of Sally Hansen products like nail paints, Vitamin E oil, Cuticle gel, Base coat and Top coat. Along with these, each place had a Manicure bowl, emery board, orange wood stick and a false nail tip to practice filing. And yes, there were goodie bags as well.

The workshop started with the trainer talking about healthy nails, what shape should your nail be depending upon the shape of your finger- that was interesting. After that we moved on to giving ourselves a quick manicure and used the amazing products set for us on the table. The nail paints were from Complete Salon Manicure Range and also we got to experience the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips and if you have read my yesterday's post (check here), you'll know what was the result...

The goodie bag contents were

And, did I mention that they had a product counter selling Sally Hansen Products for an amazing price and I could not resist but to pick up a few colors... This was my nail polish haul... Will talk about them soon...

Let me share few tips with all you lovely readers-

  • Go for an oval nail shape if you have short fingers.
  • If you have curvy and bony fingers, oval shape will go with the curves.
  • Those with really long fingers can try square nails.
  • Filing the nails is very important for well manicured look even if you do not wear a nail paint.
Hope you have enjoyed this post, do share your views about Sally Hansen products by leaving a comment...

[Review] Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Paint and Real Nail Polish Strips

Hey Lovelies,
Let me show you my latest nails done with Sally Hansen Salon Effect Range.

#NOTD

The nails are done with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish (shade 203 Nude Now) and the signature nail is done with Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips (#25 Bling it On).

The Salon Manicure Nail Polish has the base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, salon-inspired color, top coat, chip-resistance and a gel finish all in 1 bottle. So an easy to use multipurpose product that is great if you are travelling and let me tell you it is really long lasting as well as compared to the usual nail paints. I am writing this post on fourth day after application and it is still going great.

The Real Nail Polish Strips are a great way to do your nails if you have no time to wait for drying of nail paints or could be a great idea to do your signature nail. They are easy to use- just peel off and apply, then shape using a nail buffer. It can last upto 10 days and are easy to remove with a nail paint remover.

How do you like the nails? Have you tried Sally Hansen's Salon Effects range? What is your favorite product? Do leave a comment and share your thoughts.

[Review] Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Nail Color

On the occasion of Christmas, Sally Hansen launched a new range of Nail Colors- Lustre Shine in three beautiful shades- Plume, Azur and Scarab.

Image Source- Sally Hansen Singapore Facebook Page- Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in Azur, Scarab and Plume
These are intense and radiant nail lacquer infused with real silver from the Far East that creates a rich iridescent effect on nails!
These three shades seem to be taken up from the shades in a peacock's feather. Even I could not stop myself from picking up one of them, so I picked up Plume (005), which is like an antique gold with greenish undertones and bronze sheen. It picks up the color shades and tones from peacock's plume quite well and I was instantly attracted to the bottle.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in 'Plume' 005

The color is great and easy to apply, comes out opaque with two coats but wanted it to be a little more intense so applied three coats. As I always do, I used the Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top coat as well.
Sally Hansen Lustre Shine and Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat
The colour is intense with light sheen and stays on well atleast for 4 days. I am also now excited to try the other two shades and promise to put up the review as soon as I do that.
Somehow, Sally Hansen has been my favorite for Nail Paints because of the variety of textures and variations that they have to offer... Do check out my review on Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat here.

Where to Buy?
Watsons, Guardian stores

SGD 14.90

Colours of fall- Random Thoughts!

Slowly, the heat of Summer is giving way to the coolness of Fall, though this is not so evident with Singapore weather as the only weather we experience here is hot and wet, anytime and all the time. But, nevertheless, we all are gearing up for the Mid Autumn Festival with Mooncakes and lanterns with less than a fortnight away. So, the spirit of fall is still evident here although the visual effect of fall with yellow, orange, brown and red leaves as seen in other countries is missing. Singapore is an evergreen country. During my visit to USA in fall and my stay in Japan, I got an opportunity to witness the changing colours of Fall and it is so fascinating to see how within a matter of few weeks, leaves turn from green to yellow to orange to red and drying up to brown and falling off, giving way to new leaves that will grow in spring.
Though we all love our childhood and youth, where we are in the green of our lives and look great but we should never forget that as we grow older, we may not have the look and beauty of our youth- we have various skin concerns like wrinkles, dryness and darkening of colour just like the leaves of fall, we may not look beautiful but we sure have the power to make our surroundings look beautiful... afterall who doesn't like to click fall pictures with so many colours around.

[Review] Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat

While browsing in Watsons, the other day I found this new textured nail paint from Sally Hansen- Fuzzy Coat.

I could not help myself but buy it and really wanted to try out how the textured effect comes out. So I bought this #200 All Yarned Up. I chose this shade because I prefer something which is subtle on my hands, something that is not very visible and merge with my hands. So this shade was like fun and yet subtle. Other shades are

Then I applied it as is on my nails and let me show you what to expect-

Step 1- My Bare Nails

Step 2- Nails with Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat applied as  Base Coat

Step 3- Sally Hansen Fuzz Coat #200 All Yarned Up  First Coat
It dries up really quick taking less than a minute

Step 4- Sally Hansen Fuzz Coat #200 All Yarned Up  Second Coat

Step 5- Sally Hansen Fuzz Coat #200 All Yarned Up Third Coat

Step 6- Sally Hansen Fuzz Coat #200 All Yarned Up  Fourth Coat and finished with Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat applied as Top Coat.

These products were used-

Some tips to get the best out of Fuzz Coat-
1.Shake the bottle well before applying each coat.
2.Always start with a base coat and finish with a Top coat and Sally Hansen Diamond Shine works great as a base and top coat and is quick drying.
3. The technique that works best is to dab the paint and then coat the nail to spread the fibers evenly.
4. Use it with a contrasting or similar tone solid colour and you will get a totally different effect.
5. For the last coat try to paint only the nail tips as the fuzz concentration tend to be the least at the tip.

Where can you buy Sally Hansen Fuzz Coat?
All local beauty stores which keep Sally Hansen products.

Cost?
S$14.90 (at Watsons)
